Sailor Moon Rewrite

So I’m going to do a Sailor Moon rewrite. I won’t probably post much about this here but this is going to end up like a test post, but more on that later.

I’m going to change a bunch of things, and more importantly I’m going to meld together aspects of the og anime, the manga, and other canons to make one big story. I’m gonna talk about the senshi’s weapons on this post.

I’ve decided that all the senshi need a weapon that they’ll use throughout the series in addition to some of their normal attacks (though I won’t be limited by the same things that limited the anime like budget, so I can make as many attacks as I want). Here’s some thoughts on what I chose and why;

Moon: Sailor Moon uses a series of objects, starting with the Moon Wand (don’t get me started on how this is what the Moon Stick should actually be called) followed by the _________ Rod and finally the __________ Standard. I haven’t settled on names, but likely we won’t get an upgrade each arc. The Wand and Rod are pretty much as expected, but the Standard is a new idea; she represents the heart of the team, and to differentiate her staff-like weapon from other staff-like weapons, it’s either a flag or a solid icon, I haven’t decided yet. Yes I used to play 40k why do you ask

Mini-Moon: In contrast to her mother, Chibiusa has a gun lol. Every adaptation has the scene where Chibiusa has a realistic looking toy gun because it’s very funny, and I think her main weapon is therefore a gun (not realistic though, it’s like a pretty plastic gun). It also links up with her wand not working, where the gun can like, just kind of poof and not work. Why not the Crystal Carillon? Read the bit about Mercury and Jupiter.

Mars: I knew this one first; Mars uses a yumi bow, which is able to shoot fire arrows or blessed purification arrows. Seeing her canonically use Flame Sniper made me know immediately she needed a bow. Big excited to write this one.

Mercury and Jupiter: We’re going to come back to them.

Venus: Again, I knew that Venus is going to have a chain whip weapon. That said, she’s also going to use the Sword of the Silver Crystal, which is her right as the leader of the team, and I want to have her use both at the same time at some point.

Saturn: No change. Saturn has the Silence Glaive and I’m not changing a thing. It fucks as-is why would I change that.

Pluto: Again no change. The staff works, it looks good, we like Pluto’s staff.

Uranus and Neptune: The Space Sword is more like the manga version as a rapier, epee, or saber. I hate the anime design lol. The Deep Aqua Mirror is now also a sword. While the Space Sword is a long thin blade, the Aqua Mirror is a short wide bladed sword that can double as a divination mirror. Paired weapons, Uranus and Neptune are the only senshi to be able to use each others’ weapons (not including the SotSC).

Ok Jupiter and Mercury. Originally I had the idea to give Mercury a shield, but that doesn’t super work because she’s not strong, and I didn’t want to give Jupiter the shield. I considered giving Jupiter a spear, like a lightning rod. Then I considered giving Mercury a shamisen, and Jupiter a taiko drum. And while I love the ideas here (especially lighting/thunder themed Jupiter having a taiko) but then I realized that 2/10 guardians would have instruments and the rest had weapons. 3/10 if I gave Chibiusa the Crystal Carillon as her main weapon, but still.

So instead, I gave Jupiter a two-handed hammer and Mercury throwing knives. Jupiter has a hammer to highlight her strength, and Mercury gets the throwing knives to highlight the need for strategy. I also like Mercury having a more active role in addition to her more normal role as team braincell haver.

Anyways I may post more about this, and I may in fact elaborate on each of these at some point but for now I just wanted to get it written.
